How to set up WPdesktopmanager and use it every day: servers, sites, backups, schedules, restores, migrations, updates. Written for the app as it is in version 0.8.0.

Where to start

How the app is organised

The left rail has three groups. Sites, Backups and Migrate work across everything you manage. Updates, Tools, Users and Security are per site: they need a site chosen first, and are disabled until one is. Servers and Activity are about the machine and the app itself. ⌘K (or Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux) opens a search box that reaches every site, every screen and the daily actions.

What the app does not do

It does not install anything in WordPress and it does not run a service on your server. It connects over SSH when you ask it to, runs standard tools there (tar, mysqldump, WP-CLI), and brings the result back to your computer. It keeps no copy of your sites, credentials or backups anywhere but your own disk. The only thing it talks to on the internet is the licence server, once a month, to confirm your subscription.
